STACY SPENCE
Stacy Spence’s dance work often explores the exchange between person and environment. This involves playful interactions and movement generated in response to the places he finds himself – studio, home, and in public spaces. Presently, he brings his attention to the internal space of “me”– as a personal environment to be outwardly created, expressed, occupied, and shared.
His new dance in triptych form, I am, here (a solo), Here with us (a duet), Where we find ourselves (a quartet), created in collaboration with dance artists Tim Bendernagel, Joanna Kotze, Hsiao-jou Tang, singer/musician Charlotte Jacobs, percussionist Raf Vertessen, and costumer Athena Kokoronis, explores ideas of self, impulse, and sharing.
This piece premiered at Danspance NYC in March 2024
KWART VOOR STRAKS with ALEX DEFORCE
KWART VOOR STRAKS is the brand-new project of Alex Deforce & Charlotte Jacobs, two wordsmiths with different styles but similar philosophies. Alex is a painter, poet and curator; Jacobs is a vocalist and songwriter. Kwart Voor Straks interweaves their speaking and singing voices with sudden, evaporating musical fragments, at times no more than the synth-tastic distortion of a single, endlessly stretched syllable. A moody dance of fearless experimentation, for lovers of Voice Actor, ssabae or Laila Sakini who feel at home in Stroom’s meticulously unbalanced world.

Expect back beats, through composed melodies, enigmatic lyrics and grooves, bathed in swirling synths, alto saxophone, electric bass and guitars – Music that is as un-categorizable as the musicians are versatile.
